An Asian woman who was kidnapped by two men over a AED3,000 financial dispute was rescued by police, an officer said on Wednesday, according to Gulf News.
Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said the Asian suspect with the help of his countryman kidnapped the 42-year-old Asian woman because she had failed to return AED3,000 he had given to her to invest in business.
The pair locked her up in a flat on the border between Dubai and a neighbouring emirate and asked her to call a friend to bring AED50,000 to let her go.
“The friend received a call from the victim from an unfamiliar number and was told that she must bring some money to her because the suspect wanted his money back. Her friend felt that the woman was in danger and contacted Muraqqabat police station for help,” Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said.
A team of Criminal Investigation Department managed to locate the flat through the phone signals, raided it and rescued the woman within two hours of receiving the call.
“The woman was tied with ropes and found lying on the ground when officers raided the flat and arrested the two suspects,” he added.
