The authorities in Dubai unveiled a plan to introduce the first self-driving automated police patrol vehicle, according to Emarat Al Youm newspaper.
The General Directorate of Police in the emirate has signed a memorandum of understanding with Singapore-based OTSAW Digital to deploy the new outdoor robotic cop patrol dubbed O-R3.
The hi-tech initiative is part of a programme to turn Dubai into the first city in the world to have O-R3 in operation.
“The plan follows directives from UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,” said Dubai Police Commander in Chief Lieutenant-General Abdulla Khalifa Al Merri.
The hi-tech robotic cars will be fitted with cutting edge biometric software, high-resolution cameras and radars to detect wanted criminals and other lawbreakers who are on the search lists and co-ordinate with the control room.
Lt-Gen Al Merri will be leading a delegation which will travel to Singapore to supervise the final stages of the project.
