BAHRAIN are set to take on Ukraine and New Zealand today in their Pool ‘B’ matches of the World Men’s Under-18 3x3 Basketball Championship in Chengdu, China.
The national team face Ukraine at 10.45am (Bahrain time) before clashing with New Zealand at 12.15pm.
Ukraine, who are ranked second of the world, are one of the the favourites to win the title. They currently top of the group with two wins against Qatar 18-13 and New Zealand 16-9 on Thursday.
The top two teams from each of the four groups will make it to the quarter-finals.
Bahrain, Qatar and New Zealand have one win and one loss each.
Bahrain are in fourth place with 14.5 points average from 29 points scored while defending champions Qatar are second with 15 points average from 30 points scored and New Zealand third with 15.4 average from 31 points scored.
Bahrain’s national coach Abdulkareem Al Anzoor held a training session yesterday where he concentrated on fine-tuning the team’s defensive tactics.
He said he was confident of his team putting up a spirited performance today.
Earlier, Bahrain Basketball Association president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa telephoned the team in China and congratulated them for beating Georgia on Thursday for their maiden victory at a world class event.
He also wished them all success in today’s matches.
