Book: Why Not Me?
Author: Mindy Kaling
Light-hearted and funny, Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling is a collection of essays about her life, getting into the acting industry and her ongoing journey in Hollywood.
This book was recommended to me by a friend and knowing how Kaling portrays her characters on-screen, I was keen to see how her humour translated into her writing.
I have always found her on-screen characters to be injected with her witty personality, and I was pleased to find her comedic talents in her book.
Although, I should point out this isn’t just a light book full of comedic essays as Kaling addresses the good, the bad and the ugly events in her life and with it tackles serious issues such as bullying and body image issues as well as her work-life balance.
She also offers up a lot of advice throughout the pages and one of the stand out essays for me is the one on confidence, although there were a number that caught my attention.
Kaling has definitely earned the title of ‘role model’ in my view with this honest, detailed look into her life.
Admittedly, celebrity written books aren’t my favourite thing to read but sometimes it’s good to have a quick easy read that doesn’t completely absorb you while you relax on a sunny afternoon.
With this in mind, Why Not Me? makes for a great light-hearted afternoon read by the pool or on the beach, so be sure to download a copy before you head off on your holidays this summer.
Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling can be purchased from www.amazon.com and www.kobo.com for around $15.
