ENJOY a movie night in the serene setting of La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art in Manama next week.
Screening on July 11 is Walt Disney’s 1971 production of Hamad and the Pirates.
It is a tale of a young orphan boy, Hamad, who goes to sea with a group of pearl divers and falls overboard during a storm.
He is rescued by a pirate dhow roaming the waters of Bahrain with priceless treasures and antiquities stolen from the island.
The adventure begins as Hamad escapes the dhow and travels across Dubai and the Empty Quarter in Saudi Arabia to reach Manama where he helps authorities to catch the pirates and recover the stolen treasure.
The film to this day remains a noteworthy record of the island’s past as it is set 42 years ago with its wooden dhows and pearl divers, camel trains, the bustling suq of Bab Al Bahrain and the narrow streets of Manama.
The film will be screened indoors to avoid the summer heat and tickets are priced at BD10+ for adults and BD6+ for children under 12 years old.
Guests will also be able to enjoy dinner on the evening and use the ticket value as credit in the restaurant.
The film will begin at 7pm.
