Recent revisions made to the Arab League which stands as qualifiers for the Showjumping World Cup were unanimously approved by the Technical Committee for the Seventh Regional Group at the International Federation for Equestrian Sports.
During its third meeting this year at the Sharjah Equestrian & Racing Club, the committee members discussed the amendments which are expected to give advantages to Arab athletes and would address the challenges facing the Arab League.
They also discussed ways of developing the League and collaboration with the Organising Committees and national federations in order to tackle the challenges being faced by the athletes and horses’ transportations.
The committee presented several suggestions to develop the Arab League to facilitate the participation of the athletes and attract more participants.
Chairmanship
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Seventh Regional Group, Deputy President of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports, in the presence of Sami Al Dahami, President of the Technical Committee at the Seventh Regional Group, Sultan Mohammed Khalifa, General Manager of the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club, Hussam Abu Baker Zumait, Consultant of Emirates Federation for Equestrian Sports and Haidar Al Zubi, Manager of the Group’s Office.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club, Ashraf Jaber Al Laithy, delivered a presentation highlighting the suggestion of the Club to create a new league for young athletes as well as another league for young horses.
He said that the proposals stemmed from the keen interest of Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the Federal Supreme Council of UAE, in making a new generation of athletes and horses.
The suggestions were approved and the Technical Committee for the new league was assigned to prepare a final draft which will be presented to the International Federation for the Equestrian Sports in July.
