An attempt to smuggle a large quantity of liquor through Kuwait's Al Shaiba seaport was thwarted, according to Al Rai newspaper.
The customs officers searched a container loaded with paper and seized 5,500 bottles of Red Label valued at more than KD300,000.
The operation was co-ordinated with the General Anti-narcotics Directorate squads, after receiving a tip-off.
An Arab national suspected of smuggling the liquor from an Asian country was arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution.
Investigations revealed that the Syrian suspect smuggles the liquor from India with the help of another trader. A police inquiry is underway.
