BAHRAIN’S Fatima Abdulrazzaq won the shot put (F53) gold medal at the Para Athletics World Championship 2017 in London late on Saturday night.
Fatima won the event with a best throw of 4.73 metres. Her first attempt was a foul, the second soared to 4.56m, the third 4.73m, the fourth 4.60m, the fifth was again a foul while her last attempt matched her third.
A total of eight athletes took part in this category. The Ukraine pair of Lana Lebiedieva (4.72m) and Svitlana Stetsuik (4.39m) finished second and third respectively.
Dimitra Korokida (4.34m) of Greece was fourth, Pamela Lejean (4.32m) of Canada fifth Deepa Malik (4.20m) of India sixth, Deirdre Mongan (4.09m) of Ireland seventh and Estela Salas (3.93) of Mexico eighth.
Honourary president of Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa congratulated Fatima on her latest achievement and thanked the Bahrain leadership for their support to youth and sports activities in the Kingdom.
He also congratulated Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and first deputy chairman and president of Bahrain Athletics Federation Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation president Shaikh Mohammed bin Daej Al Khalifa also congratulated Shaikh Nasser and Fatima.
