A taxi driver in Dubai was fired and had his taxi license revoked after he was caught on video deliberately backing up his car and crashing it into another taxi.
In the video, which has recently been uploaded to YouTube, the driver is initially seen getting out of his car and arguing with a taxi driver in a car behind him.
The shouting gets louder and the driver eventually gets back into his car, and starts to drive away but he can be seen slamming the brakes several times.
The second taxi driver, despite the first driver's repeated braking, still manages to avoid hitting the car.
The first taxi driver can finally be seen reversing his car and crashing into the one behind him.
According to local Arabic media reports, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai confirmed that the driver was employed by a taxi company in the emirate, and deliberately hit another taxi by reversing into it.
According to RTA officials, the incident happened on July 20, 2017, on Al Mutaina Street. The time stamp can also be seen on the footage recorded by the dashcam.
The RTA stressed that it does not tolerate such kind of inappropriate behaviour from taxi drivers, or from any of its employees, as they do not reflect the authority’s values and ethical behaviour.
The authority then instructed the taxi franchise to terminate the driver’s employment and revoke his taxi license.
The RTA also apologised for the inconvenience and uncivilised behaviour, and appealed to all members of the public to act respectfully on the roads.
