A Pakistani will stand trial on Tuesday on charges of killing Azan Majid Janjua, according to Al Bayan newspaper.
The defendant, in his late 20's, was charged with raping the 11-year-old boy and then strangling him to death, using a rope.
The Public Prosecution, represented by Abu Dhabi Family Prosecution, referred the man to the Criminal Court, urging capital punishment for the crime which sent shockwaves across the UAE.
The defendant faces two charges – rape and murder which are punishable by death under the Sharia jurisprudence as well as the UAE Federal penal code and the law on child’s rights.
The man is also accused of wearing women's clothes and driving a car without plate numbers in the back.
CCTV footage circulated online captured the killer disguised as a woman and making his way from the street into the building.
The video recording, which was used as compelling evidence, showed the defendant carrying a bag and walking behind the victim, as they both enter the elevator and made their way to the rooftop.
Azan went missing on May 30, and his body was found the next morning by AC technicians, who went to the building’s rooftop to check a malfunctioning chiller.
