Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and UAE Armed Forces Deputy Supreme Commander Shaikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, received Iraqi Sadrist Movement leader Moqtada Al Sadr and discussed bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest, according to WAM.
During the meeting, which was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Shaikh Mohamed was briefed by Al Sadr about current developments in Iraq.
The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince stressed the importance of a prosperous and stable Iraq in order to regain its pivotal Arab role.
"Experience has taught us to always call for what brings Arabs and Muslims together, and to reject the advocates of division," he said.
“The UAE has all along its history extended its hand to the Iraqi people,” he added, commending the Iraq expatriate community for contributing to UAE's progress and prosperity.
He congratulated Al Sadr on defeating the terrorist Islamic State (Daesh), stressing the importance of “investing in this moment to build a nation that is inclusive to all Iraqis”.
