A school in Al Qasim province has reportedly prevented an eight-year-old Saudi girl from attending classes because she was more interested in acting, according to Almarsd newspaper.
The arbitrary measure sparked outrage among a number of citizens following a viral video in which Mayar said that she risks being expelled from her school.
The pupil’s father had filed a complaint with the General Directorate of Education in Al Qasim, which launched an inquiry into the decision taken by the school.
The school principal reportedly summoned Mayar, who is a grade V student, and spoke to her threateningly, telling her to choose between school and acting.
The school supervisor has also threatened the student, warning her against continuing her hobby of acting and appearing on social media websites.
Mayar appeared in video recordings which went viral on social media, displaying her talent as a budding comedian.
