A Kuwaiti lawyer was sentenced to five years in prison for spreading false news and rumours that defamed the Ministry of Health, according to Al Qabas newspaper.
Hani Hussein claimed that a naturalised Bangladeshi expatriate who was naturalised fraudulently had impersonated a Kuwaiti doctor who immigrated to New Zealand in 1982 and died there.
He alleged that the man had used a forged passport to work as a “fake” doctor at the Health Ministry for 35 years and had gone unnoticed.
The Public Prosecution charged him with spreading rumours through his twitter account and endangering national unity, which amounts to a state security case.
