Bahrain national triathlon team’s Samira Al Bitar won the women’s gold medal in the West Asian Championship held in Aqaba.
Samira completed the race, comprising 750m swimming, 20km cycling and 5km running, in a record time of 01.06 hours.
Compatriots Omar Hamza and Mohammed Mubarak won the silver and bronze medals in the youth category for the same distance.
Bahrain Triathlon Association president Shaikh Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa congratulated His Majesty the King’s representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa on Bahrain’s outstanding results.
He noted that the kingdom continues make its presence felt in various regional and international events due to the support of Shaikh Nasser.
Shaikh Saqer affirmed that the accomplishment is an addition to the kingdom’s impressive track record in triathlon, adding that the continuous success of the triathletes calls for more efforts to develop the sport for further achievements.
