The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) said that seismic monitoring stations of its National Center for Seismology and Volcanology recorded today an earthquake measuring 3 on the Richter scale.
According to SGS official spokesman Tariq Aba Al Khalil, the tremor occurred on the Red Sea opening axis, west of Jeddah city, at a distance of 91 kilometres, SPA reported.
He stressed that the quake was not felt in any of the coastal cities near the epicentre because of its weakness, reassuring citizens and residents that the seismic situation is stable in the region.
