REGIONAL challenges, military strategies and international coalitions were discussed as Bahrain successfully hosted its first international defence show.
Royal Guard Commander Brigadier Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised the overwhelming response for the first edition of the Bahrain International Defence Exhibition and Conference (BIDEC) 2017.
The three-day event ends today and is being held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad.
“The event is a great success as we have a heavy calibre of people sharing their thoughts and ideas,” said Shaikh Nasser.
“Some of them are in active service while others have retired, who all provided us with great amount of information and knowledge.
“The topics discussed were the importance of military coalitions and alliances.
“We face lot of problems and challenges ahead of us.
“We are running operations together in four coalitions that include the US-led coalition against the Islamic State, the GCC coalition, the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition and the Arab Coalition Forces to Support Legitimacy in Yemen.
“Bahrain is playing an active role in all these coalitions.
“We need to learn lot of lessons and advice from experts, which this conference provided as it catered the right message to everyone.”
The expo has been supported by Bahrain Defence Force and London-based Clarion Defence and Security.
“The response has been fantastic as we look forward to host the BIDEC in 2019,” said Clarion Defence and Security managing director Tim Porter.
“This is a good show with a good turn out.”
