An unidentified motorist has racked up AED1,250,000 in traffic fines in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, Khaleej Times reported.
Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of the RAK Police, said these traffic fines are the biggest ever recorded on a single driver in the emirate so far.
"The fines have all been recorded by the radars installed on the roads and highways of Ras Al Khaimah."
"Most fines came from speeding violations committed by the motorist," he added.
"Even though these were the biggest ever traffic fines recorded on one driver, he had only to pay half the amount - AED625,000 - after the RAK Police gave him a 50 per cent discount."
The big discount was given due to the country's celebration of Happiness Day, he pointed out. "The fine reduction was a great relief for the young erring driver who paid the penalty."
Official records show that the second biggest traffic fines recorded by one driver in Ras Al Khaimah was AED250,000. "However, the driver had to pay the fine in full with no discount at all."
