Etihad and Hala advance

Etihad and Al Hala reached the quarter-finals of the King Cup Football Tournament after defeating Bahrain Club and Budaiya respectively in their matches played at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town last night.

In the first match, Etihad ensured a last eight spot when they repeated their victory against Bahrain Club in the second leg. They won 2-1 to clinch an overall 4-2 victory.

The first half of the match ended 1-0 for Bahrain Club who scored in the 39th minute through Brazilian Ivan. Etihad had to wait until the 75th minute to equalise through a penalty kick by Mohammed Abdulwahab.

Just four minutes before the final whistle, Etihad scored their winner through their professional Baba Toure.

In the second match, Budaiya defeated Al Hala 1-0, but Al Hala qualified owing to their first leg 2-0 win. Al Hala won 2-1 overall.

Budaiya’s goal came in the injury time of the second half, through Rashid Qambar.

Etihad and Al Hala will clash in the quarter-final.

Today Muharraq will take on East Riffa at 5.30pm, while Galali will face Al Hidd at 7.45pm at Bahrain National Stadium.

Muharraq and East Riffa were tied 1-1 in the first leg, so tonight’s winners will make it to the last eight stage.

In the other match, Al Hidd are favourites to qualify having defeated Galali 3-0 in the first leg.

The winners of tonight’s matches will lock horns in the quarter-final.
