MANAMA: Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has announced the Bahrain launch of its new flagships, the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, which feature the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI)-powered system-on-chip.
During the official unveiling at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, a company spokesman said the Mate 10 series “goes beyond smart, using AI to make the device so intelligent that it completely changes smart applications and delivers a faster, stronger and seamless experience.”
The Mate 10 series features the new HiSilicon Kirin 970 chip, which comes with not just a graphics processing unit, but also a neural processing unit (NPU) – the brain powering its AI capabilities.
The NPU allows the devices to perform 25 times faster and 50 times more efficiently than a standard CPU.
The NPU also enables more intelligent features, including that the dual-lens Leica Summilux-H camera recognises scenes and images better and can zoom in up to 10x, as well as smart power management capabilities for its 4000mAh battery.
Other features include 3D glass body, quad-HD AMOLED displays, “the world’s fastest 4.5G”, dual 4G SIM support enabling each SIM to make calls and browse simultaneously and Huawei SuperCharge – which is the world’s first TÜV safety certified technology.
Priced at BD238.99, the Mate 10 comes with a 5.9-inch display, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage whereas the Mate 10 Pro has a six-inch screen with the base variant featuring 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, priced at BD276.99.
The Mate 10 Pro with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage is available at BD307.99.
“The use of AI in the Huawei Mate 10 series allows us to break through boundaries and usher in an era of smartphones that transform human-to-machine interaction and further expand their capabilities,” said Huawei Consumer Business Group Middle East and Africa president Gene Jiao.
“With boosted performance, speed, power, and infinitely faster connectivity and download speeds, this premium device series delivers the ultimate user experience, and heralds a new decade of smartphone development.”
A special-edition Porsche Design version of the device that will have 6GB RAM and 256GB internal storage will be made available in a few weeks, said the spokesman, adding that the company is offering an additional six months screen damage warranty from the date of purchase on the Mate 10 series.
