His Majesty the King’s representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa has maintained his momentum in triathlon championships by winning sixth overall and second in his category in the Dubai International Triathlon Championship.
As many as 1400 participants from across the globe took part in this prestigious event which featured three competitions – 1.5km swimming, 80km cycling and 10km running. Shaikh Nasser posted an impressive time of 03:08:25 hours, highlighting his readiness for the upcoming Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship Bahrain.
At the end of the race, Shaikh Nasser was honoured by members of the organising committee for his achievement.
Speaking after the race, Shaikh Nasser said: “I am very happy about this result in an international championship, which featured a pool of professional and amateur players. There are several factors contributed to this achievement, including the support and backing of His Majesty King Hamad, which fuelled me with enthusiasm.
“Achieving sixth place overall and second place in my category is a very wonderful result and calls for optimism in the upcoming races after I was able to reach the desired physical and technical readiness.
“The participation in this international championship is of great importance due to the presence of many pioneering athletes. I was determined to achieve a good result and to finish in the shortest time.”
Shaikh Nasser said that he lost two minutes in the swimming race, but managed to recover ground in cycling.
He said he was looking forward to winning gold medal in the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship Bahrain. “After this achievement, I feel I am ready for the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship. I only want the Bahraini fans to be by my side so that I can win gold medal,” he said.
Shaikh Nasser also praised the achievements of other members of Bahrain Triathlon Team who participated in the race.
