FAVOURITES won both the feature and two of the five support races at the horse racing in Sakhir yesterday.
The biggest winner of the day was favourite News Breaker, owned by Victorious, trained by Alan Smith and ridden by Richard Oliver, as it lived up to expectations winning the Stewards Cup for locally bred horses which carried a cash prize of BD2,000.
The favourite beat Knight And Day by two lengths while Call A Friend was third and Snake Eagle fourth.
Another favourite Al Rabda 1558, owned by Al Jasra, trained by Yousif Taher and ridden by Hussain Makki, also lived up to expectations beating Mlolshaan 1649 by two-and-half-a-length to win the Safra Cup for Arabian horses which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
Tuwaisan 1659 was third and Al Jellaby 1434 fourth.
The day though started badly for the favourites as Acapella, owned by Abdulla Fawzi Nass, trained by Fawzi Nass and ridden by Husain Makki, stunned Al Aghar by half-a-length to win the opening race of the day which was for locally bred horses carrying a cash prize of BD1,500.
Ramani was third and Waheed fourth.
Prince Bonnaire, owned by Al AFoo Racing Stable, trained by Hussain Aldailami and ridden by Calvin Habib, brought a smile on to the faces of the favourites as it beat Brazos by one-a-half-a-length to win the race for imported horses which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
Dodger Marley was third and Zain Emperor fourth.
Penelope Pitstop, owned by H and R Stables, trained by Alan Smith and ridden by Sadiq Hameed, followed suit beating Nardeen by three-and-half-a-length to win the handicap race which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
Stevie-G was third and Lazzam fourth.
Four on Eight, owned by Maher Ebrahim Lutfalla, trained by Abdulla Kuwaiti and ridden by Carlos Henrique, was another upset winner when it beat Bermondsey by five lengths to win the race for imported horses which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
Fadhaa was third and Cartago fourth.
Another unfancied horse Awesome Quality, owned by Zainab Mohammed Jasim, trained by Salah Mahdi and ridden by Abdulla Faisal, followed suit by shocking Sir Charlie Kunz by six lengths to win the second handicap race which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
Moannaa was third and Bahamian Desert fourth.
Allergic Reaction, owned by Shaikh Sultan Aldeen bin Al Khalifa, trained by Alan Smith and ridden by A Rahim Jasim, caused the last upset of the day beating Shura Council by half-a-length to win the third handicap race of the day which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
Rogue Wave was third and Millers Wharf fourth.
