Al Kooheji beats Farhad

Hamzah Al Kooheji defeated India’s Mohammed Farhad in the bantamweight category last night during the Brave 9 International Combat Week being held as part of the fourth Mixed Martial Arts World Championship at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.

The fight between Al Kooheji and Farhad was the top attraction among the Bahraini fans who attended in large numbers to support their fighter.

In another fight, Haider Farman of Pakistan defeated Atif Mohamed of India in the straw weight category.

A total of 14 finals are scheduled for today, closing day of the championship. Bahrain’s Gamzat Magomedov will take on Olzhas Moldagaliyev of Kazakhstan in the bantamweight 61kg category. Another Bahraini fighter, Murtaza Ali, will fight Pavel Pahomenko of Belarus in the light heavyweight 93kg category.

The closing ceremony will be held under the patronage of His Majesty the King’s representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council of Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Meanwhile, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation (BMMAF) honorary president and chairman of the Higher Organising Committee for Brave International Combat Week and fourth edition of Mixed Martial Arts World Championship Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised the role of the sponsors, including gold sponsor GMC and media partner Gulf Daily News.
