Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, and Honorary Chairman of the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation (BMMAF), congratulated the wise leadership for the Kingdom of Bahrain’s successful hosting of the World Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Championship held at Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town.
Shaikh Khalid, who is also Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee for the Brave International Combat Week and the 4th edition of the Mixed Martial Arts World Championship, said the event is a reflection of the leadership’s support for sports.
“The support of the wise leadership formed the strong base from which the Higher Organising Committee was launched to bring success factors to the tournament,” Shaikh Khalid said.
Shaikh Khalid congratulated His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa for Bahrain’s success in hosting the Brave International Combat Week, which included the World Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Championship, and the ninth Brave Championship.
Historic
He praised the Bahrain fighters for achieving a historic second-place finish behind overall champions Sweden.
The host country claimed two gold medals on the final day of competition courtesy of Gamzat Magomedov (bantamweight 61.2kg category) and Murtaza Talha (light heavyweight 93kg category), as well as three bronze medals from Hussain Ayyad (flyweight 56.7kg), Abdulmanap Magomedov (featherweight 65.8kg) and Fatema Burshaid (lightweight 70.3kg women’s category) who became the first Bahraini woman medal winner.
Sweden topped the overall medal ranking with four gold and one bronze, while the US finished third with two gold and two bronze medals.
The final bouts of the World Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Championship was also witnessed by Shaikh Khalid and Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee.
