Manama hit back to hold Malkiya

Manama held defending champions Malkiya to a 2-2 draw while Muharraq continued their dominance by defeating Riffa 1-0 in the eighth round of the Bahrain NBB Football First Division League played at Bahrain National Stadium in Isa Town last night.

In the first match, Malkiya held hopes of winning their match by leading 2-0 in the first half. However, Manama hit back twice in the second half to hold the defending champions to 2-2 draw.

Malkiya surprised their opponents Manama with an early goal scored in the 16th minute through Ali Ashoor’s free kick.

Manama had a chance to equalise in the 27th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. However, Congolese Doris Salamo’s kick was saved by the Malkiya goalkeeper.

Malkiya scored their second goal in the 37th minute through Sayed Ali Isa to lead the first half 2-0.

In the second half, Manama succeeded in reducing the margin to 2-1 when Malkiya’s defender Hassan Al Barri scored an own goal in the 69th minute. Manama later shocked Malkiya by scoring the equaliser in the 80th minute through Ali Habeeb.

Malkiya now have 14 points, while Manama have eight.

In the second match, Muharraq continued their commanding performance by defeating Riffa 1-0.

Muharraq’s winning goal was scored in the 52nd minute by Isa Moosa.

Muharraq top the table with 22 points from seven victories and one draw, while Riffa remain with 10 points.
