AL HIDD overcame Samaheej 84-72 last night in a game between previously winless sides in the Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Hidd used a decisive fourth-quarter surge to turn a 59-all deadlock at the end of the third quarter to the well-deserved 12-point win – their first and only victory of the season thus far.
Lightning quick guard Hussain Lulu spearheaded Hidd in the endgame. He scored eight points in a 14-4 run by Hidd in the last four minutes of the contest.
Lulu eventually led all scorers, finishing with 29 points. He also had a near triple-double, registering 10 assists and eight rebounds while also having four steals and two blocked shots in a fine all-around effort.
Nooraldeen Mohamed added 24 points and a monster 26 rebounds, while Ashraf Moaweya chipped in with 14 markers.
Mujtaba Ismaeel was the top scorer for Samaheej with 13 and nine rebounds. Mohammed Hameed had 12.
Heading into the game, both Hidd and Samaheej had lost all 10 of their earlier games. Hidd are now on the win column with one victory to boast two points on the league standings, while Samaheej remained at the bottom of the table with zero points.
Meanwhile, in yesterday’s other game, Al Riffa manhandled Isa Town 91-49 in a hugely one-sided game.
Riffa jumped out to a 22-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and then stretched their advantage to 42-17 at the half.
They continued to cruise in the final two periods as they enjoyed leads by as many as 44 points.
Marcel Jones led Riffa with 33 points and 16 rebounds. Ali Asghar contributed 13 and Salem Mohammed had 10.
Habeeb Sami paced Isa Town with 21 points in the losing cause.
Riffa improved to a 7-5 win-loss record and are now on 14 points in the top six on the league table. Isa Town, on the other hand, suffered their ninth defeat and are on four points from their two wins.
League action continues on Tuesday.
