A TERROR suspect who tried to mow down a police officer to evade arrest has been jailed for 12 months.

The incident happened when the 52-year-old Bahraini was stopped at a police checkpoint in Bilad Al Qadeem and was asked for his identification.

The policeman speaking to the fugitive was then informed by his colleague over a walkie-talkie that the man had an arrest warrant against him.

The defendant, who overheard the conversation, drove through the checkpoint, over the officer’s foot and fled to a nearby village.

He was arrested later that night.

The incident occurred on January 9 last year.

The High Criminal Court yesterday found him guilty of assault and attempted murder.

The defendant was wanted in connection with a terror related case.
