Mohammed Gaith and Nataliia Matskevych narrowly overcame Lloyd Mendes and Marianna Muursepp 4-3 to claim the gold medals and the “BTA Torch” perpetual trophy in the ninth Social Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament of the Bahrain Tennis Academy (BTA) held at Dilmun Club in Saar.
In the play-off for third place, Arsalan Iqbal and Lyn Barrie defeated Kerri Darwish and Ilse Blondeel 4-3 to claim the bronze medals.
The one-day event, which targets new and recreational players, was played with a slightly slower ball to give players more time to react.
Split
In the preliminary rounds, teams were split into two groups. Players then proceeded to compete in short matches against all other teams within their group. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from each group progressed to play-off for the medals.
BTA and Tournament Director Dan Barrie said: “It was an enjoyable morning of tennis where we tried to focus on the fun side of competitive matchplay for new and improving players.”
Recreational players that would like to join the next event should contact BTA at dan@bahraintennisacademy.com for more information.
