The Government of Oman has unveiled a new readjusted fuel subsidisation strategy.
Under the scheme, Omani citizens above 18 earning OMR600 or less a month, will get 200 litres of subsidised fuel monthly.
The plan which takes effect next month (January) is meant to benefit citizens who have been adversely affected by the scrapped fuel subsidies.
In a statement last night, the government urged eligible Omanis to register quickly, for the new-look fuel-subsidy scheme to take effect in January.
“Omani citizens who meet eligibility requirements will get 200 litres per month of 91 petrol at a cost of not more than 180 baisas per litre”, the statement said.
The scheme will benefit eligible Omani citizens, above the age of 18, owners of their own vehicles which are registered with the Royal Oman Police or fishing boats registered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
“Based on the subsidy terms, the categories covered include all Omani employees, entrepreneurs, job seekers, students , housemaids and retirees, as well as fishermen who meet the said eligibility terms”, the statement added.
