The Civil Defence evacuated 70 tenants as a fire broke out in their residential building in the region of Al-Farwania.

Twenty-nine children were among the tenants who escaped safely from the nine-storey building.

Four firefighters were taken to the hospital after inhaling smoke as they battled to put out the blaze which started first in a flat on the fourth floor.

Three other firefighters were also treated on the site of the incident. An investigation is underway to probe the causes of the blaze.

The Civil Defence put out another blaze which broke out in a six-storey building in Al-Jahra. More than 100 tenants, including children, were evacuated.
