FIFA commends women’s entry to stadiums in Saudi

GDN Online Desk

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) commended the Saudi decision allowing women to enter stadiums and attend soccer matches.

The international governing body described the unprecedented step as a sporting victory for women.

The FIFA statement wished women more successes and strides, stressing the importance of their presence to cheer their national team in the World Cup in Russia 2018.

Women yesterday attended for the first time the football match opposing Al-Ahly and Al-Batin at the King Abdulla Stadium (Al-Jawhara) in the city of Jeddah.

The King Fahd Stadium will today open its doors in the city of Riyadh for women to attend the clash between arch-rivals Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad as part of the 17th round of the Saudi football professional league.
