FINES imposed by Bahrain's courts rocketed by 41 per cent last year, according to statistics released today by Attorney General Dr Ali Al Buainain in a Press conference.
He said fines worth more than BD2.4 million had been handed out by the courts in 2017, compared with BD1.7m in 2016.
That is an increase of BD700,000 in the space of a year.
Meanwhile, bail paid by criminal suspects to avoid jail while court cases were underway rose to more than BD2.2m last year, up from BD1.9m in 2016.
