OMAN defeated Australia 33-19 yesterday to make a winning start in Group ‘B’ of the 18th Asian Men’s Handball Championship in Suwon, South Korea.
The Omanis held a 16-8 advantage at half-time.
The result helped Oman earn a spot in the next round and also set up a mouth-watering clash with Gulf rivals Bahrain (today at 9am) to determine the group leader.
In other results yesterday, Iran defeated Uzbekistan 37-18 in Group ‘A’; hosts South Korea beat India 35-23 and the UAE routed Bangladesh 36-15 in Group ‘C’.
Saudi Arabia thrashed New Zealand 42-12 while defending champions Qatar took care of China 34-19 in Group ‘D’.
