A MAN punched a woman in the face before one of his female friends also attacked her with a brick, a court heard.
The alleged attack took place following a dispute at a nightspot in Manama last July.
The 23-year-old party organiser and two of his female friends are standing trial at the High Criminal Court charged with assault.
The Bahraini girls, aged 23 and 31, allegedly attacked the 32-year-old Saudi woman after accusing her of slandering them.
The male defendant is then said to have punched the victim woman in the face before one his female friends attacked her with a brick.
However, the Saudi woman is also said to have attacked the defendants.
All the defendants denied the charges in court.
The male defendant initially admitted to hitting the Saudi woman but said that he now regretted it.
“I was sitting with my Bahraini female friend when she (the Saudi woman) showed up,” he told prosecutors.
“We got into a heated argument because she started defaming us.
“We confronted her and asked her not to spread rumours about us but she started shouting at us and pushed us.
“I hit her on the face to make her stop before she got into a fight with my other female friend.
“I really regret hitting her but she attacked us and was insulting us.
“Before this, I was friendly with her and helped her organise parties but she then started spreading rumours against us.”
The Saudi woman claimed she was lured to meet the co-defendants who planned to attack her. “I got a call from him (the male defendant) telling me to meet him in a hotel,” she told prosecutors.
“However, when I got there I saw him with another woman and we got into an argument.
“They attacked me and I fought back before I became unconscious.”
The trial was adjourned until January 29 for review.
