Muhsin Pallikandy struck as Marina FC defeated Kanyakumari FC 1-0 in the final to lift the YGC Eight-a-side Indian Republic Day Silver Cup at the Ittihad Club ground in Adhari.
The move of the day came in the second half from the left flank when defender Laijo sent a long ball to Thajudeen in the centre circle who controlled the ball on his right foot and sent a classic pass to Anfas Ahmad bisecting two defenders on top of the box.
Anfas sent an excellent pass to Muhsin whose thunderous full blooded drive beat Kanyakumari goalkeeper Sohail and gave Marina their first ever tournament win.
In the Plate final Snipers FC bowed out to Sporting FC 2-0.
Lesten Martins, from Sporting Club De Goa and playing his first ever tournament in Bahrain, opened the scoring in the sixth minutes of the first half with a neat placement to beat Snipers FC veteran goalkeeper Eusepio Fernandes. Playmaker Godfrey Silva sealed the victory towards the closing stages of the game.
The Best Goalkeeper Award went to Rahul KV of Marina FC and the Highest Scorer Award was taken by Snipers’ Baniston Barreto.
