Shahid Kapoor along with wife Mira Rajput, who walked the ramp for the first time, were the showstoppers for designer Anita Dongre's collection 'Songs of Summer' which was a well-kept surprise.

Other celebrities present at the show include Shabana Azmi, Shriya Saran, Sameera Reddy, Sangeeta Bijlani, Diana Penty, Yami Gautam, Gul Panag and many more.

Renowned designer Anita Dongre says the only way forward in the world of fashion is through sustainability.

The designer said today there is a growing need to conserve natural resources and protect the planet from unnecessary wastage.

Her 'Songs of Summer', which she unveils today at the closing on Day 1 of the LFW Summer/Resort 2018, is one such example.

"We start every collection with same passion and enthusiasm. Some garments in the clothing line have been made from R Elan fabric, where they have taken polyester and recycled it.

"There are four that we've done using that polyester as a sustainable fabric. We have tried to incorporate sustainability in the collection as it is the future," Dongre told PTI in an interview.

Reminiscing her childhood connection to Rajasthan, the couturier said she drew inspiration from a "garden of flowers" for the showcase.

"Summer to me means beautiful bougainvillea flowers. It always looks beautiful in Rajasthan's summers. For me, it's the garden. There will be some reflections of the summer flowers in the collection."

Dongre's said 'Songs of Summer' will have new silhouettes, Banarasi weaves, colours like soft blue, pink, yellow, green and white, to enhance the much-needed respite "easy, breeziness" of the hot season.

The designer said although primarily a wedding collection, the clothes focus on wearability and can be adorned at any event this season.

"I've kept in mind summer wedding in a hot summer place. These are the kinds if clothes that you could wear. Everything is in cotton and sheer. Very light and comfortable for every occasion in summer."

The collection is being presented by R Elan.
