Bahrain Cinema Club: Five girls’ quest for freedom...

Leisure

INTERNATIONALLY co-produced drama film, Mustang, will be screened at the Bahrain Cinema Club tonight.

Directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, the story is set in early summer in a village in northern Turkey.

Lale and her four sisters are walking home from school, playing innocently with some boys, which sets off a scandal leading to unexpected consequences.

The family home is progressively transformed into a prison; instructions in home-making replace school and marriages start being arranged.

The five sisters who share a common passion for freedom find ways of getting around the constraints imposed on them.

The 2015 film was nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Bafta for Best Foreign Film.

At Cannes Film Festival, it won the Label Europa Cinemas Award and was nominated for the Golden Camera Award.
