The Kuwaiti authorities could seek an international red notice to help track down a Lebanese man and his Syrian wife, who fled the country leaving a Filipina inside a freezer in their rented flat for up to 16 months.
The fugitive couple left Kuwait early December 2016 fearing a court verdict that could bar them from travelling abroad over financial claims, Al Anba reported.
The corpse of the Filipina was referred the Criminal Investigation Directorate for a post mortem to reveal the exact time of death.
The landlord of the building had won a court verdict to evict the couple from the flat for non-payment of a year's rent.
Policemen opened the flat in the presence of the landlord and the apartment janitor and discovered the woman’s frozen body. The apartment was found to be empty.
The watchman of the building, which is located in Hawali district, told the police that he had not seen the couple and their Asian maid for months.
A forensic expert pulled out the frozen corpse and noticed traces of violence on the head and other parts of the body.
Hawali Criminal Investigation director Colonel Waleed Al Fadhel ordered an inquiry into the suspected crime and the way the couple left the country in 2016.
According to Al Rai newspaper, the Lebanese husband was facing court cases for issuing several dud cheques.
He reportedly approached security authorities two days before fleeing the country and reported the Filipina maid had run away.
