Busaiteen Club’s athletics team wrapped up their campaign at the Arab Women Sports Tournament in Sharjah on a high note.
On the concluding day of athletics, the Bahrainis clinched another victory through promising athlete Noora Jassim, who topped the shot put competition to give the kingdom its 10th gold medal at the tournament.
Hitting 15.06 metres, Noora claimed a deserved gold medal, granting Bahrain their 11th medal in athletics events.
The result saw Bahrain top the overall medal table with a whopping 24 medals (10 gold, 5 silver, 9 bronze).
Following the finals, Bahrain chef de mission Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa presented the medals at the awarding ceremony and congratulated Noora Jassim as well as other Busaiteen Club athletes on their remarkable performances in their respective competitions.
Elsewhere, Bahrain Club reached the final of the table tennis doubles championship. Club duo Maryam Al Qasmi and Hessa Al Zayani will take on Jordan’s Mu’ta Club pair Siwar Yousef and Bara’a Mohammed for the gold medal.
Maryam and Hessa started their title quest beating Aziza Samir and Maysoon Abdulqader of Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Club 3-0 in the first round. The Bahraini tandem then moved on to the semi-finals, where they beat Kuwait Girls Club’s Kefaya Abdulmohsin and Fatma Abdulhussain 3-1.
Bahrain Club’s other pair of Mayam Al Blooshi and Amal Al Nuaimi were unable to follow suit, losing to Kuwait’s Manwa Al Shimmiri and Maryam Al Baron 1-3 in the first round.
In the volleyball tournament, Muharraq Club must win today’s match against Sohar Club of Oman to keep alive their chances of taking podium.
Muharraq lost in three consecutive matches and are on two points. Their hopes of finishing in the top three are still on papers – if they win their next two matches against Sohar and Kuwait Club on the concluding day.
