Globally, instances of infertility are increasing, with one in six couples facing difficulties conceiving.
This could be due to changes in lifestyle in modern society and that women are choosing to have a baby in their late 20s to early 30s for various reasons.
In July 1978, the world’s first in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) baby was born, revolutionising the management of infertility. It was done by Professor Robert Edwards and Dr Patrick Steptoe for tubal infertility, although now it is used for many other causes of infertility. Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) has thrown a lifeline to millions of men with low sperm count and Azoospermia.
Better awareness and high success rates of fertility treatment motivate couples to seek treatment with confidence.
Founded in 2002, Janeen Fertility and Genetics Centre, one of Bahrain’s first private IVF clinics, opened with the vision to provide high-quality fertility and genetics services. Located on the fourth floor of Ibn Al Nafees Hospital in Zinj, Janeen is an ultramodern facility that offers customised treatments to couples.
The team at the centre has unparalleled knowledge of reproductive medicine and genetics, and patients can rest assured that the treatment and support they receive will result in the best possible outcome.
Consultant Fertility, IVF, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr Meera Balakrishnan joined the centre in February last year and has over 25 years’ experience.
Prior to her appointment in Bahrain, Dr Balakrishnan was the lead IVF consultant at Bourn Hall Fertility Clinic in Cambridge, UK – the clinic where the world’s first IVF baby was born in 1978. During her time at Bourn Hall, Dr Balakrishnan had sub-specialty training in Assisted Reproductive Techniques.
Janeen Fertility and Genetics Centre is proud of its leading IVF success rates, and is committed to providing the latest clinical treatment programmes to help you achieve a successful pregnancy.
Services available at the centre include conventional gynaecological procedures, intra-uterine insemination, IVF, ICSI, testicular extraction and prenatal genetic diagnosis.
