The 2018 Bahrain Sports Day is all set to take place today with a packed sporting and entertaining programme to be held across Bahrain’s four governorates.
To be held for the second consecutive year, the 2018 Bahrain Sports Day is organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and targets both citizens and expats of all ages.
The Sports Day will involve all ministries, other government authorities and the private sector in an attempt to promote sports as a healthy lifestyle.
The organising committee, headed by BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, has completed all arrangements.
“We are so grateful to our sports federations for their cooperation in organising this event, which is in line with the directives of the presidents of national GCC olympics committees to have a national sports day all over the Gulf region,” said Askar.
Askar said they have set up many attractions, organised by national sports federations, at the purpose-built Sport Village near the National Stadium at Isa Sports City in Riffa. The events include an open walkathon.
“More than 250 activities will take place on the day in an attempt to promote awareness among people on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” added Askar.
Among the most anticipated event taking place today is the ‘Fun Run’, to be held at the village to promote the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. The 18th Asian Games involving 40 sports and 462 events will be held in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 to September 2.
The Fun Run programme is a dedicated Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) social sports development and promotion programme that is held by 45 Asian National Olympic Councils.
The 1.7km race will kick off from Isa Town roundabout at 3.30pm and is open to everyone. Registration for the race can be done one hour before the race starts.
Bahrain is the fifth of 31 stops for the OCA campaign, with 19 medals to be presented by the council to all winners of the race.
A special media conference was held yesterday to present the event. It was attended by Wisam Trkmani of OCA President’s Office, Elena Hristova Chakarova, Olympic Council of Asia’s (OCA) international relations officer and Jeans Zhou Jian, the OCA media manager.
