GCC Financial Forum 2018: Blockchain, AI and big data discussed

MANAMA: Fintech and innovation are driving a fundamental re-structuring of the financial services industry – creating opportunities for new players and threats to incumbents, Allianz Chief Economic Advisor Mohamed El Erian has said.

Delivering the opening keynote at the GCC Financial Forum 2018 that got underway this morning at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, Mr El Erian said phenomena such as blockchain, Artificial Intelligence and big data are making financial professionals in the Gulf reassess their businesses and their roles.

Euromoney Institutional Investor Acting Chair David Pritchard confirmed over 900 delegates from 24 countries have registered for this year's forum.

Key panellists at the forum over the next two days include Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Central Bank of Bahrain Governor Rasheed Al Maraj and Economic Development Board chief executive Khalid Al Rumaihi.
