LEGENDARY guitar maestro Carlos Santana will be performing in Bahrain during the Formula One weekend, it was announced yesterday.
For his first-ever show in the kingdom, the 10-time Grammy Award winner is bringing his Divination Tour to the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir on April 6.
The 2018 Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is set to take place at the circuit from April 6 to 8 this year.
The global superstar is a Mexican-American musician who rose to fame in the late 1960s with his band, Santana, which pioneered a fusion of rock and Latin American jazz.
The band’s sound featured his melodic, blues-based guitar lines set against Latin and African rhythms featuring percussion instruments such as timbales and congas.
He continued to work in these forms in the decades that followed, resulting in a resurgence of popularity and critical acclaim in the 1990s.
Santana is a legendary voice of world music and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
He received the Billboard Century Award in 1996, was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, received the Billboard Latin Music Awards’ Lifetime Achievement honour in 2009 and was the recipient of the Kennedy Centre Honours Award in 2013.
Among many other accolades, Santana has been cited by Rolling Stone magazine as number 15 on their list of the ‘100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time’.
All three-day ticket holders to this year’s Formula One will be able to attend the show.
