GENEVA: The Mideast Quartet opposing Qatar’s support for terrorism yesterday said a speech by the country’s foreign minister at a key UN human rights forum “contained numerous fallacies”.
Qatar is trying to internationalise a regional crisis that should be solved by the countries themselves in the context of the ongoing mediation by the Amir of Kuwait, Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, UAE’s permanent representative Obaid Salem Al Zaabi told the 37th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
He was using the right to reply to deliver a statement on behalf of the four countries – Bahrain, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
He said: “Our countries will continue to practice their sovereign right to boycott the government of Qatar – a right that is guaranteed by international law – in defence of any harm or deliberate act that targets our security and interference in our internal affairs.”
