Abdulwahab Al Malood’s goal helped Al Hidd seal a 1-0 victory over King’s Cup champions Al Najma in the opener of the 14th week of Bahrain NBB First Division Football League played at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town last night.
The all-important goal came in the 43rd minute.
The victory was crucial for Al Hidd as they managed to keep a safe distance from relegation zone. They now have 15 points, eight ahead of bottom-placed Ettihad.
Al Najma’s hopes of overtaking leaders Muharraq for the league title have vanished after remaining in the second spot with 27 points, eight behind Muharraq who have one match in hand.
Meanwhile, two matches are scheduled for tonight, when Ettihad to take on Riffa at 5.10pm and Al Ahli face East Riffa at 7.40pm. Both matches will be played at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
