Garmco begins migration to AWS

MANAMA: Bahrain-based Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill (Garmco) has in collaboration with Almoayyed Computers started the migration of some of its information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure workload to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The company website,, has transferred to AWS through several applications such as the Employee Self-service, the Survey Portal and storing of database audit logs and reports.

The website uses a specific content management system to publish dynamic content, careers management system to cater to prospective candidates for job opportunities at Garmco.

This also includes information for its subsidiaries in Australia, Europe, Thailand, Singapore and the US. The in-house developed online e-Tendering application that allows vendors to bid online will also be migrated to AWS soon.

Garmco general manager Mohammed Essa said he believes that this initiative “would pave the path towards further technology enhancements resulting in increased productivity, agility and reduced operation costs”.

The cloud-based system, he added, would also help towards achieving the company’s environmental protection goals by implementing a greener ICT.

In accordance with the environmental initiative, the company will continuously look for opportunities to migrate additional workloads and services to cloud over time.

Almoayyed Computers chief executive S M Hussaini said he was confident that cloud adoption across various workload would happen successfully.
