It was a night for celebrating the best in Hollywood with fancy frocks and expensive diamonds. However, this year, celebs added their own touch of something special to their dresses. The red carpet did not look like a usual Academy awards crowd. It could be because a number of A-listers were missing - Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, George Clooney among others. Of the celebs present, there were some who combined their personal style with designer duds to make something special come alive on the red carpet ... and there were those who could have tried harder.
Oscars 2018: Best dressed and worst dressed celebs on the red carpet
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior in what felt like an off-duty relaxed look but she still managed to look great.
Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé, Harry Winston jewellery and Christian Louboutin shoes. The colour looked great on Nicole.
Allison Janney in Reem Acra. The colour, the cut of the dress and the styling all worked for this Academy Award winner.
Lupita Nyong’o in custom Atelier Versace, Versace bag, Niwaka jewelry and Alexandre Birman shoes. From her movie choices to dress choice, there is not much Lupita has got wrong this year.
The fierce Danai Gurira in Gabriela Hearst and Messika jewellery and a touch of eccentric with the design on her head.
Salma Hayek is not frumpy and never looks frumpy either but this year's Oscars were an exception. She is wearing a custom Gucci gown but as their new line suggests Gucci might not be the go-to brands for big ticket events like the Oscars.
Emma Stone wore a Louis Vuitton suit. It was the good kind of suit either, it did nothing for the beautiful Ms Stone.
Helen Mirren in blue Reem Acra looks a far cry from the glam diva we have come to aspect. This was strictly O-K.
Viola Davis in Michael Kors Collection and with a Roger Vivier bag. The colour of the dress, the severe hairstyle and the hoops were all the wrong choices the stylish Mr Davis' stylist made and she should be fired for it.
Elisabeth Moss in Christian Dior, Roger Vivier bag and Brian Atwood shoes. It is not bad... but it is not great either and we know how good a well styled Mss Moss can look.
Emily Blunt in Schiaparelli Haute Couture with Chopard jewellery. Th colour washed out Emily.
Margot Robbie in Chanel Haute Couture and Roger Vivier shoes. Chanel seems to have got it all wrong, poor Margo looks like she is wearing a Christmas decoration onn her dress.
Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klein by Appointment, Cartier jewellery and Christian Louboutin shoes. The colour of the dress washes out Ms. Ronan, the dress itself feels ill-fitted and the bow at the back - we could have done without.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Whoopi Goldberg making quite the spectacular statement on the Oscars red carpet in a cerulean Christian Siriano gown. The belted number certainly had a royal attitude to it but the print was very much like GRandma's old curtains.
Since it is the age of inclusion, we got to have some men on this list. Armie Hammer in Giorgio Armani looked Dapper despite recovering from flu.
Chadwick Boseman in Givenchy looks amazing. The detailing on the jacket stood out for all the right reasons.
The Wakandans sure clean up good. The photogenic cast was one of the talking points of the red carpet.
