His Majesty the King’s representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised the organisation of last month’s Bahrain Sports Day.
Shaikh Nasser, who was speaking at the second meeting of BOC’s new board, commended the efforts of the organising committee, headed by BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, and thanked His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, for his decision to dedicate half day at work in offices to exercise on February 13 as part of the event.
Praising the new board’s achievements over the past few months, Shaikh Nasser expressed his wish that this would be an ‘Only Gold’ year for Bahrain. This is a slogan he initiated this year to motivate Bahraini athletes at regional and international championships.
Shaikh Nasser urged all national sports federations to organise sports activities for women in the senior level to build on the achievements made by them in Bahrain.
Shaikh Nasser also approved a number of activities to be organised by the BOC this year, including the fifth School Mini Olympics and the Bahrain Futsal Challenge, both taking place this month.
Other events are the Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa Award for Voluntary Work in April, the Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Scientific Research Award in the field of sports and the first Bahrain Baby games, both in May, the Olympic Day in June, and the first Physical Literacy Conference in September.
