In order to present a tribute to Poet Pandit Brij Narayan Chakbast for his contribution towards the timeless glory of Urdu a Mushaira Nashist will take place at Golden Tulip Bahrain tomorrow.
The function will be organised by Majlise Fakhre Bahrain (a literary group) and will be attended by the leading poets from India and Pakistan in order to pay their tributes to Pandit Brij Narayan Chakbast and to ensure that the memory of such precious and literate stars continues to grow.
The Urdu language will be celebrated, its quintessential spirit, inclusive ethos, creative richness and linguistic heritage.
Mr Chakbast was an Urdu poet, critic, editor, researcher and a prominent lawyer.
He was one of the greatest writers of Urdu poetry.
His ghazals and nazms, including Khaak-E-Hind, Ramayan Ka Aik Scene, and Gulzaar-E-Naseem, continue to influence the writers and poets of India.
A native of Faizabad, near Lucknow, Chakbast inherited his skills as a poet from his father, Pandit Udit Narayan Chabast, a well-known Kashmiri poet.
Following the death of his father in 1887, he moved with his mother to the more-metropolitan Lucknow.
A successful attorney, Chakbast used his poetry to foster a patriotic love of India. Although he was influenced by the ghazals of Ghalib, Jigar Muradabadi and Faiz Ahmed Faiz, he was more drawn to the nazm style.
His collected work has been published as Subah-E-Watan.
Majlise Fakhre Bahrain, under the leadership of its founder Shakeel Ahmed Sabrahadi, enjoys the unique honour of presenting The Poetic Diction and personality of great Urdu poets Shaharyar, Raghupati Sahai Firaq Gorakhpuri, Anand Narayan Mulla and Khaleel-Ur-Rehman Azmi.
The sixth book The Poetic Diction and personality of Brij Narayan Chakbast will be launched at this event.
Mushairas have played a pivotal role in the propagation of Urdu for a number of decades to promote national harmony.
Distinguished Urdu poets from India, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and top local poets will join hands to pay tribute to Chakbast.
Sixteen most distinguished poets, authors and litterateurs will come together to bring alive Urdu’s timeless splendour and rich heritage on the theme of the new global identity of Urdu and the message of peace and amity it has always stood for.
