A MAN who plunged a butcher’s knife into his flatmate’s back has been jailed for five years.
The 27-year-old Bangladeshi was found guilty of assault by the High Criminal Court yesterday. The incident happened last May at the apartment they shared in Manama.
In his statement, the defendant said the two men had argued because the victim wanted to evict him from the property.
However, he claimed he did not intentionally stab him, and was only holding the butcher’s knife to scare his 34-year old flatmate during the heated argument.
However, the Bangladeshi victim said he was cooking breakfast when he felt a sharp pain in his shoulder – and turned to see the defendant running out holding the weapon.
The victim, who required two operations for his injuries, previously told prosecutors he had no idea why he was attacked.
The defendant will be deported after completing his sentence.
