A SERIES of events were held across Bahrain to mark International Women’s Day yesterday.
A major celebration was organised by the Bahrain Women Union at Argan Village in Saar in co-operation with the UN Information Centre (UNIC).
A number of people, including MP Ghazi Al Rahma, spoke at the event and tributes were paid to pioneering Bahraini women through a short film.
The Yemeni, Egyptian, Palestinian and Tunisian embassies showcased their cuisines and women-related products at the event which also featured performances by Bahraini singer Mariam Rafeei and Indian and Palestinian dancers.
“This year, we chose to celebrate women from all cultures as we believe they have a strong role in all cultures and without them cultures wouldn’t even exist,” said Bahrain Women Union’s awareness team president Maryam Abu Idrees.
Meanwhile, a women’s health awareness campaign was held at the Middle East Hospital in Segaiya.
Giveaways were presented to female visitors and patients.
Free salon services were offered to women at Gatsby Beauty Lounge in Riffa.
Speciality foods and drinks were also provided.
Ebrahim K Kanoo congratulated its female employees for their achievements with senior marketing and communications manager Wasna Kanoo thanking them for their role in the company’s success.
